i felt compelled to post this just as laurel did. if not for facebook, how would anyone ever know we were ok?
wee! 5.8 earthquake a few minutes ago. never have i experienced a quake while in a building on rollers. it's very bizarre. sort of scarier that way. the building moves for much longer than the actual earthquake. but it's safer so i'm ok with that. and what a tech world we live in. within a minute we knew where the quake was located, it's magnitude, and everyone's new facebook status! hahaha 07.28.2008
i'm going to not wait days to make my posting about the weekend! no sir. not this time. i've got the goods right here, right now. july is just about over and i'm quite sad. sad because it was so fucking good i don't want the rest of the year to go downhill from here. one might say that it would be my fault for letting this happen, but one might also say that july is like the peak of summer. and summer is usually the peak of productivity... at least on my social calendar. so that being said, i think it's going to go downhill. i mean 4 straight amazing weeks of fun. how can this be topped? if i was still in college this feat might be replicated in the fall or spring or whatever, but now that i'm a responsible adult with a full-time job, life just isn't as fun-filled and joyous as it once was. well, maybe that's a bit harsh. but i think you get the idea. responsibility gets in the way of drinking every night. being in a steady relationship gets in the way of just fucking (not literally. though yes literally) around the city. but damn, this is starting to sound depressing. so perhaps i should make a goal for the rest of the year. don't let it fall to the wayside. keep going and make every week fun-filled. this will be hard but i shall try. anyway.... this past weekend was all about SUMMER. nothing says summer like a pool party/bbq and drinking copious amounts of liquor during the daylight hours. and if you live in LA like i do, the hollywood bowl is also a summer staple. so on saturday we hosted our first pool party. it was quite fun but there were some hiccups. we decided that our apt complex is like the cool set of parents. the parents that let you smoke weed or throw parties provided you just tell them. we didn't realize this and didn't inform our complex we were having a small pool party. we weren't reprimanded per se but, for example, we couldn't screen a movie on the wall because we had to get prior permission. had we registered the party in advance, all of this would not have been a problem. oh well. we still had fun. we drank cocktails and beer and grilled some food. we swam in the pool and we posed with byron's orange horse. byron got these horses from an artist in NYC awhile back and he takes this one around with him so people can pose with it. at least that's what i think. that's what *i* got out of all of this. i decided to get some shots with the horse. fun times.
as the night went on we moved the party into the apt where the guys played asshole til the beer ran out and then a few of us headed out to the beauty bar for some more drinking and dancing. on the way we stopped at neil's car and alex spotted a pizza vending machine. yes a real vending machine that made little pizza's. rick says it's not microwaved. i have no idea. but i did have some of the pizza and it was quite tasty.
i mean look at the expression on neil's face! if that's not a statement of the awe were in, i don't know what is. hahaha after we inhaled the pizza, we headed to the beauty bar where the bartender proceeded to serve me a very very strong maker's/sour. good lord. i had to let it water down. and by the time i finished drinking it i was back to being drunk. we danced our little hearts out to the oldies but goodies the DJ was spinning. madonna, biggie, etc. good stuff. really gets your ass movin. i ran into an old AA coworker, julia, who said she wasn't drunk but i think she was. she mentioned things that i swear a sober person wouldn't say. though julia is very outspoken so who knows. funny thing is that rick hit her in the head by accident and her response was, "what the fuck were you doing? air guitar?" hahaha she spoke of her ex-bf who coincidentally i saw the following night after we left the h.bowl. i found that amusing given what she said to me. anyway, the night ended with "don't stop believin" which is totally the new hipster anthem. it's like journey and PBR. two things that suck ass but hipsters love. the following day (as in yesterday) we started out early yet again. this time we headed to this bar down the street from my house which hosts an event called "do over" every sunday. it starts at 2 and goes til like 10pm or something. it's an awesome spot except for the strict 50/50 ratio boy/girl thing. like literally there were men lined up outside hoping a girl would come alone and take them in with them. that sucked because neil, rick, greg, and betty didn't come because of that. so sad. but byron, amanda, stacey, dan, sami, lindsey, and cynthia made it out. we all loved it. i think we consumed like 4 or 5 carafes of sangria in the 1.5 hrs we were there. it was awesome.
i really want to return to that place. we had a lot of fun. and it was totally chill once you got inside. just the whole bitch ass shit at the door. but the bouncers are upfront about it at least. they tell you, bring a girl in and you get in. they don't like make you wait and not explain why. so that's at least something. and as you can see in the photos, i was quite sad that my sangria was gone despite having consumed so much. and truth be told, i didn't feel drunk til after i walked outside and then i was like DAMN I'M DRUNK! but if we return, i plan to stay longer and dance and drink and walk into work monday morning with a massive hangover. cuz wine never does well for me. after we left the do over we walked down to the picnic area by the bowl and met up with everyone. well not everyone. maybe half the people. we ate cheese and bread and drank more and more wine. good lord. i was buzzin for sure. i got these nose cups from emily that i thought were hilarious and decided this would be a good event to whip them out.
around 7 we headed inside the venue where we promptly realized that we had 2 rows for us and the 2 rows in front of us were also people we knew. and people byron knew too. just one of the ways his world collides with mine. so funny. and SO AWESOME. 4 rows of people that all loosely know each other. so great. by the time the 2nd act came on, i swear i had a hangover. it wasn't even really sundown yet and i was like totally in hangover mode. you know it's a good weekend when the hangover comes before you even go to bed. hahaha i just drank a bunch of water and that cleared it all up. gnarls barkley were ok but not amazing. it was sort of like when i saw them a couple years ago except no costumes and really really far away. ie, not that great of a show. but the camaraderie was excellent and that's really why i go to the bowl. and i suppose this is similar to people's rationale about baseball games except with baseball i have ZERO interest in the spectacle at hand AND you can't bring your own booze to a baseball game. at least not without a lot of smuggling. at the bowl you can freely drink bottles and bottles of wine as you see fit. and that's just plain awesome. oh summers, how i love thee. if only i had a way to make them last all year long, i would be in heaven. 07.24.2008
so the monkey story is 100% true. hahaha i don't know if it's just plain sad or hilarious. 07.23.2008
i think i'm declaring it RIGHT NOW. this month of july has been and probably will be the single best month of 2008 for me. i swear to god every weekend has been amazing. first it was philly. then kyla came. seattle just passed me by. and we have one more amazing one to go this weekend with our pool party and then gnarls barkley where like 15 or more people are going i swear. but now for the overdue seattle post. it's going to be a doozy. but that seems to be the trend for this month of blogging. megaposts about the glorious weekends! ok so i flew out thursday night and arrived around 10:30pm. dominic came to get me and it we went back to his apt which is in the area of seattle called ballard. i would come to realize over the weekend that ballard is very cute and quaint. it's not "happening" and it's a bit far west but i really enjoyed walking around there. perhaps i'd want to live there if i moved to seattle. i'm not entirely sure. it was one of the better neighborhoods i went to though it seemed. anyway so we got to his apt and put my shit down and went out. his apt is small and quaint. it's the basement portion of a house that's been split up. it's ample space for one person. i took photos of it but i won't post cuz they aren't that exciting. anyway, we walked down the street to this spanish tapas bar/restaurant. we got a few tapas and 2 tall glasses of sangria each. considering i had soup for lunch and just a few tapas, i was quite drunk by the end of my second sangria. but we plugged on and went to a bar a couple doors down to have one more drink. it was a chill night since it was a thursday and dom had to work the next day. we walked back to his place and made toast. this is because i got him the jesus toast thing as you can see in the photos below.
now, the toast didn't turn out so well. the first one we burnt to a crisp. the the second toasted well but the stencil itself wasn't that great. perhaps this is due to dom taking one last shot for the night. haha (you can see my strip of photobooth photos in the bgd on the cabinet!) the next morning i was hungover. gah! the sangria did it to me. (note, i was hungover every morning in seattle so get used to hearing that) red wine always makes for a bad hangover and of course i didn't really think that much of it at the time. i love sangria. so i mean...anyway, i woke up when dom woke up for work which was 9am. he usually gets to work at 6:30am (!!!) but this past friday he had to go to a seminar so he got to leave later. i woke up and just sat around drinking water til he left. then i fiddled on the internet before deciding i need to go back to sleep. so i did that and then had anxiety dreams about wasting the day so i woke up around 11:30am and got ready to leave. i headed down the cute main street of ballard (damnit i should have taken more photos) and went to dom's fave coffee shop which also has cupcakes! like good, tasty kind. i got a chai and a carrot cake cupcake and sat down and relaxed. my stomach was still a bit queezy and my headache was going away. i walked around looking at some shops and then took the bus down to the U district to go to thai tom's, my favorite thai food place ever (note, i have not been to thailand yet). though once i got there i was totally still queezy so i just walked around for awhile looking at stuff til i got up the nerve to eat. and man was it glorious. so fucking good. just as i remember. it was this time last year i was in seattle for daft punk and hungover eating thai tom's. why does this always happen?! anyway, after that i decided to head over to gasworks park the sun was finally coming out beneath the clouds and the day was shaping up to be beautiful. i called neil to ask him how to get there by foot from where i was and then i started out on my path. it was about a mile and half mostly on a bike path. it was so fucking gorgeous. i was totally in love with the city. it was so relaxing to just walk around and soak up the sun and the clean air.
the park itself isn't huge but has all these structures from when it was a gas plant basically. it's really neat looking. i had about an hour before rick was going to pick me up so i just walked around, snapped some photos, watched some seaplanes land in the lake and then laid down for a little nap. ahhh, so relaxing..... once rick got there we headed out to his brother's (tino) fiance's (now wife - sue) sister's house. she was hosting a bbq for the family and friends. i got to re-meet a lot of rick's extended family who i met at his sister's wedding a couple years ago. i love rick's family. they are all so nice and quite funny. there was the running joke about whether or not i was rick's gf. i was going to wear a necklace that said "not rick's girlfriend" and i made one and everything, but then it broke! gah! so we just had to tell people instead. one of his aunts made a comment saying basically that she thought we might have to worry about if he's gay or not. haha the bbq went on from about 5 to 9:30 or something. around that time i had dom come get me so we could start the drinking night. it's weird cuz the sun sets in seattle much later than here so it's weird to start going out drinking and have the sun out. but that didn't stop us. haha we headed to capitol hill to get our drink on. we first went to linda's which is a good drinking bar. we went there last year after daft punk. only this time it was packed cuz it was a friday night. we met up with dom's friend brandon who was cool. then his friend came. then his sister. then her bf. then dom's friend sarah and her bf. then their friend karl. and so on and so forth. we grew from one little table of 3 to two FULL booths. it was awesome. all the while we were drinking pitcher after pitcher of beer. gah!! i was getting drunker by the minute. around midnight we left and walked to this club where we were going to go dancing. but apparently it looked lame so we went to this bar called chop suey where bands play. this crazy ass band called no fi soul rebellion was playing. it's a husband and wife duo. the husband sings and the wife plays air guitar to her modded guitar that has an mp3 player embedded which plays the music to their songs. so fucking entertaining. i mean i was wasted so probably anything was entertaining but rick came to meet us and he was sober and he said it was hilarious. so yea.
after the band was done we left and got pizza as did most people at 2am. in the last photo above we have dom, brandon and karl. karl is super skinny little design boy. we chatted a bit. interesting fellow. sells his own t-shirts and is able to make a living like that. pretty awesome. after we scarfed down our pizza we parted ways and dom and i cabbed it back to his place where we promptly crashed. the next morning i woke up several times starting around probably like 6am. i was MAJORLY hungover but this time no headache. just a MASSIVE throat ache. my throat was so fucking red. i don't know why. this has never happened to me before. it must have had to do with my dehydration. i noticed when i woke up my entire mouth was dry. i think i slept with it open. so i kept downing water and going back to sleep but man this was persistent. finally around noon i made the concerted effort to get up and dom followed in suit. we decided that our hangovers needed some coffee and some walking. mind you this was the day of the wedding. i was a wreck at this point. but after walking and eating a croissant and soaking in the fabulous seattle sun, i felt much much better. we took a walk over to the locks to see the boats rise up. it wasn't all THAT interesting but certainly something to pass the time. we made fun of people along the way. a woman with a bright red sequined hat comes to mind. after we got back from our hangover walk i got ready for the wedding. rick came to get me around 2:30pm and we headed off to the rose garden for the ceremony. we got there early to help set up and rick had to take the obligatory photos. (note, i am not posting any photos from the wedding cuz i think it's be really weird to do so and all the good ones of me and rick are on other people's cameras sadly) the ceremony was short and sweet and cute. rick dropped the ring which you'd almost think was staged cuz it's rick, but it wasn't. after a bit of a car snafu we headed to the reception around 6pm. the reception was on the pier at one of the convention rooms or something. it was really nice whatever it was. the view was great and there was an open bar all night. i mean seriously folks, you can't resist that. i sat with rick at the head table which was weird but whatever. the speeches were hilarious, especially sue's dad who decided to start detailing the experiments he put her through as a baby. i mean seriously, a little old asian man telling these hilarious scientifically based stories about his daughter is just awesome. it would be too hard to type out but trust me, it was hilarious. we danced and drank and danced and drank. we hung around with one of rick's cousins and his gf. then when the reception was dying down they came with us to this bar in fremont district called the dubliner. we met up with greg and betty there as well. we got there around 1am so it was nearly last call. and by then i was super exhausted from the day and from drinking. so i got one beer and nursed it. i had dom meet us there so that he and i could go back to his place together. rick gave us a ride home which was nice of him. no cab fare. woo! once we got home, before going to sleep dom told me this hilarious story that now in heinsight i'm certain is either fake, dom was too drunk to tell me correctly, i was too drunk to understand correctly, or something in btwn. basically the gist is that he has this stuffed monkey because one of his family relatives had a trailer home and a monkey and the monkey died from eating too many cigars. i know it's sad really but when i retell it, it's downright hilarious. anyway i gotta find out if i heard this wrong or what. cuz it sounds ABSURD. the next morning i woke up to the alarm i had set according to what dom said we had to do for our schedule. this was my final day in seattle and we had planned to go to the fremont street market to visit karl at his booth and then get lunch. well dom was drunk the night before and got his timing off. so we were behind. but no worries. the sun was so lovely. we walked to get coffee and then through the ballard street market. then we walked 2.5 miles to the fremont market. it was nice cuz we got to chat a lot. but damn my feet were hurting. flip flops are not the right shoes for this. had i know we were walking so much i'd have put something else on. oh well. on the way we encountered this ugly weird looking supermarketesque church so i had to snap a photo. mostly to show laurel cuz she and i discuss how ugly modern churches are. apparently this one is famous!
once we finally got the market we met up with karl and also brandon and his gf. we walked another 10 or so blocks uphill to check out this sandwich shop that brandon raves about only to find it was fucking closed. gah! so we walked right back down the hills and then went to get some thai food at this place in fremont. it was decent but not amazing. then we parted ways with brandon and his gf and walked back to dom's place. i called rick but they were going swimming which wasn't going to work for me cuz i had no swimsuit! gah. so we just took a nap at dom's. then around 4pm we headed out for my final jaunt. we went to the sculpture park down by the pier and walked around some more. there were random ass sculptures there including a bunch of richard serras. but my favorite of all was this pen eraser. i didn't realize what it was but then dom asked me what kind of eraser it was. i looked from another angle and totally recognized it. it's a pen eraser much like the one my dad gave me as a kid. just way way larger.
after a lovely stroll in the park we headed out to the airport. not without a scare of course. two drawbridges were up and the traffic stopped for like 10 min. but we got there in time and that was the end to my AMAZING weekend in seattle. it felt much longer than 3 days which was awesome. gah i loved it so much. i love seattle in the summers. if only the winters weren't so rainy i'd want to live there. i mean i almost did after college. but the rain kept me away. sigh. it's so beautiful up there. i want to return... 07.17.2008
the glamour shots from the twister party are up! here is just a sampling of the sheer greatness. enjoy!
i'm heading out to seattle tonight. i have this nervousness in my stomach. probably because i'm worried. worried about a lot of things... this morning i was riding the elevator in my building and it malfunctioned. it was going up and then it just dropped back down. and then went back up past my floor. and then back down. and hesitated. it felt like eternity but it was probably 30 secs. i was just so worried i'd be stuck in there. much like i keep fearing the metro is going to break down in the tunnel and i'll miss my flight. i worry a bit too much sometimes. and then there's the matter of flying. i hate flying. so of course i'm worried about that. and i'm flying alone so that sucks. last year i flew with rick to seattle but he left already cuz he has to attend the wedding rehearsal so there was no chance of us flying together. that and he booked his flight kind of late. i'm excited to basque in the crisp, clean seattle air with a cup of coffee in hand. i'm also excited to dance up a storm with rick on saturday. i am bringing flip flops as a backup in case my shoes start to hurt. i'm also excited to hang out with dominic since i swear he said he's moving to asia for his gf. i don't know. i might have misunderstood. either way, i think this weekend will be filled with lots of fun. if only i could beam myself there. 07.14.2008
kyla left last night. the weekend as fabulously chill. it's nice when people come to visit who have lived in LA. that way you don't have to babysit them. you can sit there and just take a nap and it's OK. and they already know all your friends most likely so that's good too. and with kyla, this is all true. we mostly just ate, sat around, napped, and ate some more. oh and drank coffee. i even brought her with me to get my eyebrows done. something i'd feel guilty for if my visitor had never been to LA. that'd be wasting precious time! to recap the entire weekend would sound rather dull. so i will just list the highlights. saturday kyla, alex and i went to LA mill to get coffee and lunch. kyla LOVES coffee as does alex. i enjoy it but nearly as much as they do. nor am i as much of a snob or connoisseur as they are. but i do know good coffee when i taste it and this place definitely has it. they have all sorts of specialty roasts and various extraction methods. we got the chemex because it was the most affordable but perhaps the least exciting to look at. the siphen (which we saw at another table) looked much more impressive. ah well. later that night dance party converged at 14 below in santa monica for ted's "goodbye" party so to speak. he DJ'd half the night and everyone was present for this glorious event. i will concede that the 5 way birthday party at this same club back in january (where ted also spun at) was more exciting on the dancefloor but i still had a really great time on saturday. there were two twister boards and a glamour shots set up. i'm EAGERLY waiting to see the photos that the woman took. once i do, i will post the best ones. i mean this was straight up high school style glamour shots. fuckin soft edges and some god awful backdrop. we did some really great poses. i'm really really excited to see how they all turned out. as far as twister was concerned, i owned that shit. i worried that maybe i had lost my touch. but no. i didn't. i stretched a bit beforehand to get the muscles going and i even wore shorts so i wouldn't worry about jeans holding me back. here is the result of all of this:
they don't call me the international twister champ for nothin'. anyway, the night was full of random poses and drunken dancing. and it was great!
yesterday orange:house reunited for a lovely little brunch in culver city. kyla and i were super tired from the night before but were able to fake the funk for this photo:
after our meal we took this cute little family photo. these are genuine smiles as the food woke us up for sure.
say it with me, "awwwwwwwwwwww......" 07.09.2008
boooo. i meant to blog monday but then monday became tuesday and then i fell asleep on the couch and here we are. nearly thursday already. gah! so sorry for the delay. i guess before i recap philly i'd like to say that alex made two really great meals this week. last night he made shrimp etouffee which is some sort of cajun dish. it was sort of like curry with shrimp over rice. it was DELICIOUS! and then tonight he made chicken schwarma. yum yum. i think he might make that again when kyla comes since we have a lot of leftover ingredients that we should use. plus it was tasty. i want to eat it again! anyway, onto the long 4th of july weekend in philly! alex and i took thursday off (yea we didn't get it off like some companies) and flew on a red eye wednesday night. as usual, we arrived early ass thursday morning only this time it was special. on the flight out we were sitting in the same row as this guy i knew from usc. parker from the blue house. we caught eyes and immediately recognized each other. we chit chatted in the terminal and then quickly realized we were sitting in the same row on the plane. when we disembarked we walked out to the terminal together and met zach! yes, zach was flying OUT of philly that morning and we had made a point to attempt to meet up in the airport. our attempt worked and zach was there to greet us when we got off the plane. it was very nostalgic and reminiscent of when we were younger and people could go to the gate to meet their family. it felt like that. it was awesome. i wish i had taken a photo but i was too tired. parker recognized zach so they had a moment as well. ah, such a good airport moment. very rare. i hate the airport. alex's dad picked us up and we went home and took a long ass nap. we were going to go to chinks for cheesesteaks that afternoon but it was closed and would be closed all holiday weekend. DAMNIT. i wanted to take photos in front of the racist sign. haha oh well. the rest of the day was spent with alex searching around like a madman at various record shops while his mom and i just walked and talked to kill the time. we met up with his sister, julia, and dad and two of his friends mwazhuwa and kehinde (they are in the photo down below a bit). their names are insane to spell and only slightly insane to pronounce. mah-zhoo-ah. kaan-day. that's how you pronounce them. anyway, we went to dinner at this fusion indian place. really tasty. not authentic but really damn good. then we went for drinks at this lame bar called no che where they had acoustic night and this guy was singing terrible covers. though i was impressed he knew a stroke 9 song. but still. then we went to this much better and more chill bar that we went to the last time i was in philly called black sheep. the next day (friday) was the 4th of july and his parents and sister were hosting a bbq at their house. they got a SHITLOAD of food. cake, pies, salmon, chicken, burgers, chips, dip, cookies, fruit, cheeses, crackers. gah it was insane. i was stuffed by early evening.
julia had a bunch of friends over, all of whom looked like they stepped out of either an A&F catalog or a ralph lauren polo ad. they are all her law school friends so this doesn't surprise me. and it was the 4th of july so red, white, and blue colored polos, shorts, etc were all the rage. one of her friends had this INSANELY cute goldendoodle. that's a designer mixed breed of golden retriever and poodle. they don't shed. they look like teddy bears. I WANT ONE. except i'm bad at taking care of anything but myself so it wouldn't be a good idea. but if i ever get a dog, it'll be like this. the no shedding thing is amazing. and looking like a teddy bear...fucking brilliant.
around 6pm it started to rain which sort of scrapped our plan to go to the parkway and watch the show and fireworks. it was only john legend performing so it wasn't that bad. last year it rained a LOT and we missed hall & oates. i was PISSED. so we just sat around for awhile before heading out to some bars. we went to this one called bob & barbara's where EVERYTHING on the walls is PBR related. it's insane.
all the plaques, ads, lights...everything is PBR. they have this "citywide special" there where for $3 you get a shot of jim beam and a 12oz of PBR. good fuckin deal if you wanna get trashed. alex and the boys got that.
in the top photo kehinde is in the middle and mwazhuwa is on the right. in the bottom photo alex is being silly and making a HORRIBLE face. we stayed at this bar for awhile cuz i liked it. if i lived in philly this would be a staple bar. they have themed nights like drag queen night. jazz night (that's what we saw). drunk game board night. i would really like this place i'm sure. after that we went back to the black sheep where we ended our night. i love how you can just park your car and walk around the city from bar to bar. though i suppose i should be worried about getting mugged or shot since their rates for that are HIGH HIGH HIGH. one girl mwazhuwa worked with got mugged 3x in one year! good lord. and julia got mugged AT GUNPOINT like a year ago. fucking hell. too scary for me. saturday we had brunch at this country club that alex's parents and family friends are apart of. apparently they used to hate jews and not let any in and now they do. so alex resents the club for that and thinks it's hypocritical to go there. i sort of agree. but whatever. we had a lovely brunch and one of their family friends who i love got us an amazing huge cutting knife and cookbook for our housewarming gift. she's sending us the knife cuz we didn't want to have issues with it at the airport. haha after brunch we went to the constitution center where you can learn all about the constitution and such. but it was so fucking cold in there we couldn't stay long. they jacked up the AC so high that everyone was freezing. i did, however, get this glorious photo of alex in a judge's robe.
after that we went to get the droolworthy kobe beef sliders at barclay prime. the one thing i MUST always do when i go to philly.
these sliders are so scrumptious. holy shit. if i had to have one last meal it would consist of these sliders and then some sushi from various places i like. yes these sliders are THAT GOOD. the bun is so crispy and buttery. and the beef is cooked perfectly. the carmelized onions and the gruyere cheese just top it off so nicely. it all melts in your mouth. gahhhhh. they are $7 a piece which is so expensive but SOOO worth it. omg i'm drooling just thinking about them! soooo gooooood. after the sliders we walked around center city and looked for shorts for alex. he needs shorts damnit and we didn't find any!! ugh. so sad. for dinner we ate at this american small plates restaurant. the food was pretty good but not amazing. the carrot tangerine soup with coconut marshmallow and mint was delicious though. gah i feel like i'm on top chef or something with all this food talk. but seriously, philly has some DAMN good places to eat. i've been really counting the calories this week and hitting the gym extra hard to work it all off. i ate entirely too much this past weekend. after dinner alex and i went to see mwazhuwa's new apt which is quite small but suits him perfectly. we just hung out. they played some games. i sat and watched and tooled around on his computer. it was a very calm, early night. sunday we were flying out around 6pm so we didn't do too much. we met up with mwazhuwa around 1:30 and went to the hospital to visit their friend pete (who i met when he stayed at alex's last year) who was there for the past week. pete is a bit younger than me and is very unfortunate. one day his liver just started to die. for no good reason. the doctors are studying him to figure this out but basically he had to get a transplant asap at the end of last year and he did but now he's having some rejection issues. it's terribly sad. so he was in the hospital for a week and we went to visit him. his gf was there too. he was fine enough to walk outside and around the block with us for awhile. just chatting and such. but terribly sad situation. he and his gf are coming out to SF and LA next month. i think they will stay with us. that'll be fun. they are really nice people. after that we headed out to the airport where our flight was delayed like 2 hrs due to rain. but we somehow got home only an hour late. i love how they "make up time in the air." why can't we always just do that? i want to get there as quickly as possible. so why do they take longer usually? anyway, we got to LA late and neil picked us up and that was that. aaaaaaaaaaand. done. 07.02.2008
it's wednesday at 2:55pm. i want it to be thursday at 6:30am so i can be safely on the ground at philadelphia airport and ready to start my long holiday weekend. but alas i have to get through a few more hours still. anyhoo, in the midst of my wall-e hysteria, i didn't get around to posting about the rest of my weekend! it was mostly filled with rick/neil/lawrence's housewarming party (guys, you need to name your house!!), fleet foxes at spaceland, and an awesome company/website i found that i won't divulge the secrets of (well...laurel and byron know about it) but it's just simply amazing. more on that in weeks to come. but the housewarming party was fun. downbeat for the most part but fun. and the fleet foxes were simply amazing. i liked the album before but now i REALLY like the album. speaking of albums, the new beck leaked and it's damn good. i'm ready for it. i love just about everything beck does. so i'm not surprised. anyhoo, back to work. much to do before i leave. i have a headache because i'm so tired. so i hope that means i'll sleep like a baby tonight on the plane. unless there's punk ass teenagers singing and talking. or bad turbulence. let's hope for neither. PLEASE.
