ok, it's time to get political for a moment. it should be NO surprise to people that i am a democrat and supporter of barack obama. sadly, i did not make that pumpkin in the photo. my coworker did. his pumpkin skillz surpass mine. nevertheless, i am just as enthusiastic for obama as he is. and with this web 2.0 day in age, it's pretty damn easy to be a supporter. and obama really has himself right in the middle of it all. allow me to share some things with you.

this is obama's website. look at how fresh and current it is. it's very web 2.0 and very youth oriented. most political websites are ugly and stiff and boring. but this one is very vibrant and inviting. makes you want to click around and look at more things. and the logo. my god his logo is so awesome. i mean the fact that he even has a real honest to god logo it cool it itself. it's very fresh. the logo was designed by a chicago firm called sender llc. and it represents the O in obama as well as the rising sun over the horizon. the horizon of america. oh it's just beautiful. and i say this with total unbias. in fact, being the nerdy designer that i am, i've read a few articles on presidential candidate branding and everyone agrees that obama's is one of the best out there in history. hell, this design company in oregon even made this website, logobama. the goal is to raise $5000 for the campaign by letting people personalize their own obama logo. i mean we've already seen it's many incarnations for all the various races and societal groups. and now this. the obama craze is all over the place. but i digress.

so stemming from the website we have the my.barackobama.com section. on his website you can make your own account and make your own obama page. you can put things on there and raise money for the campaign if you so desire. i actually didn't even know about this until i got a link to a fundraising event a few weeks ago at fresh pressed. they were doing screenprinting of various designs from local designers. proceeds going to the obama campaign. i mean isn't that awesome? you can make your own page and spread the word and thusly raise cash for the man's efforts. bloody brilliant. and very youthful and web 2.0.

furthermore, obama's camp created an iphone app! VERY web 2.0. very current. i have to say that i don't honestly use this app very much, but i like having it on my phone because it just makes me happy. just knowing that his campaign is so with it they made an app that has up to date event info locally and nationally. it has media and news as well.

now in the facebook world, obama has all sorts of stuff. he has an official page which you can become a fan of and get updates. admittedly, mccain has a page too, but obama has WAY more supporters than mccain. like 5x as many i think.

obama also has an app on facebook. different than the fan page. and when you add the app to your profile you get this secondary page.

it has a search engine to find where you are voting if you don't know. that's cool because i know a few people who can't find their voter pamphlets or never got one and don't know where to vote. furthermore, it has a little side panel where it cross references your friends and finds ones that live in crucial battleground states and urges you to remind them to go vote. in my case i have one friend in florida so it's giving me the option to remind her to vote.

there is also a whole slew of related obama support pages. veterans for obama. gays for obama. asians for obama. etc etc. and look at how that little logo is being crafted to fit the needs of the specific organization. nifty huh?

all of this speaks to the youth mainly. most older people aren't hip to all this stuff but it's the youth that are really making a difference in this election i think. i think that's why obama has shattered donation records for any candidate of any party EVER. over $600mil for the campaign which is just damn near fucking crazy for a democrat candidate. he raised $150mil in sept alone! and never have i seen so many of my friends and peers getting so political. i mean just the other day my DJ friend ted sent out an obama mixtape. it's filled with a bunch of music related to wanting change and the sentiment that we all want obama to win.

Barak Obama - This Mixtape is About You
Pleasure - Let's Dance
Mr. Oizo - Cut Dick
Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul - (I Got) So Much Trouble in my Mind
Jackson Sisters - I Believe in Miracles
Cheryl Lynn - Got to be Real
James Brown - Dead on It (U-tern disco edit)
McFadden & Whitehead - Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Starpoint - Wanting You (Romeo Erotic remix)
Daft Punk - Something about Us (EASTAR remix)
Kool & The Gang vs. Stardust - Music Sounds Better with a Celebration (OoC blend)
Daft Punk - AerObama (Adam Freeland remix)
Muse - Knights of Cydonia

so i really really REALLY hope that next tuesday we see all of this action working. i mean it's hard because i live in a bubble. a democratic, heavily liberal minded, indie rock loving, artistic community of people. so of course we are all pro obama. but we don't really represent the rest of the country. so who knows. all the polls have obama leading but the tables can easily turn. so i'm not holding my breath just yet. but i really hope that my two bottles of champagne i got to bring to brian and jessica's next week are used to celebrate and not break over my head to put me out of my misery.

oh and yea, the phillies won the world series. i could care less but alex is going out of his mind. he's not even home now because he's out celebrating. leaving me with time to myself to make my political post. haha

obama + dance party =

i wish i made this but i didn't. i found it via facebook and then on google it pointed me to this blog entry.

ok so apparently i missed a ridiculously fun "silly hat" party for rick's birthday. i saw all the photos and it looked so fun. but alas, elton called. and while i do love me a good party, i wouldn't have traded elton for the world. ok, that's a bit much. but i certainly wouldn't have traded elton for a party. no matter how fun it looked. DAMN THE WORLD FOR OVERLAPPING FUN!

alex and i decided to ditch our flight and get the money back to drive to and from vegas. it was more like alex wanted to do this and i didn't put up a fight. we left friday night and i drove straight through. i am surprised i didn't need to stop. i am also surprised that my poor eyes made it that long. i have determined that i think i need glasses while driving at night. at least for long distances. but we made it there and all is well. we had SUCH a bullshit snafu with the customer service at the wynn hotel which i don't feel like explaining. needless to say, the hotel is very nice and all but the people that were supposedly "helping" us were a bunch of fucking assholes. ugh anyway. this could not mar my elton weekend. it just put a slight distaste in my mouth at 2am.

when alex and i woke up saturday morning (in our SMOKING room ugh) we headed out for breakfast in the hotel (very tasty) and then to meet up with a guy named matt who we were selling our extra tickets to. sadly alex's mom's ankle was still not well enough for her to fly out here so both she and alex's dad didn't come. so we had to sell the two extra tickets. and i hooked up with matt and his wife from portland who were in town for i believe his physicians exam thing something or other. blah blah. anyway so we met up with him to exchange money for tickets and then said we'd see him later as they would be sitting next to us. so then alex and i headed to hoover dam for a couple hours. i'd never been there and it was a sight to see. very neat. then we headed back to vegas and got ready for the elton show. except that it was only 4:30. but see alex wanted to watch the world series which started at 5:30. so we got dressed and walked down to the planet hollywood hotel so he could buy some jeans at urban and h&m (all of his are dead suddenly) and then he'd watch the game there and then we'd head over to the show at 7:30. well the game was delayed so after we got the jeans we walked back to our hotel to put all the stuff down. then we walked to cesars to see elton.

oh MAN it was a good show. no cameras were allowed in but i found a few photos online from a girl's blog.

when you put elton john with david lachapelle you end up with an insane show. very sexual. i couldn't help but think that at least one old woman in the crowd was pissing her pants over all the sexual imagery and probably all but lost it when the inflatable boobs came out. hahaha oh MAN. it was so fucking good. elton is amazing. he sounds so good. he played a lot of hits and he did his encore with "your song" which is such a beautiful song. it's hard to describe the show if you weren't there. it was a complete spectacle. lots of videos playing and crazy props on stage. man. so good. and our seats were dead center. ahhh, so good!!! i'm so happy i went. of course i'd love to see elton do just a regular show as well but if this is all i ever get from the man, i will be happy. because it was stellar.

after the show alex and i went to eat dinner. we had a lovely dinner at the restaurant in cesars. my pumpkin soup was delicious. after dinner we walked back to the hotel to change into regular clothes and then we hit the video poker machine. i don't really know how much we won. maybe like $50. we are small timers. but hey, at least we didn't lose. we have this strategy of cashing out that ensures we don't lose a lot of money and/or we win money. and it kept us going til about 2am. so that was good enough for us. we got some free drinks out of it as well.

this morning we woke up and got breakfast and then headed back on the road back to LA. it was a very quick trip much like the one 2 wks ago minus all the debauchery. i got back in time to get my haircut which was great since i really needed it. did two loads of laundry, watched some dexter and here we are. time for me to hit the hay.

kyla comes this friday and it's also halloween. i've got my costume mostly in order. the homecoming game is saturday and byron's birthday is sunday. so lots of partying to be done this weekend. i swear i won't be able to rest til thanksgiving. ahhhh!!!

on a totally different note. i was thinking recently that i will probably take some classes on package design. i'm starting to think maybe i can head my life in the direction of working at firms that do package design to get experience in that and then maybe start up my own firm based around that. i love tangible things and while my magazine idea still beats strong within me, i know that magazines are a dying thing. everything is going digital and slowly magazines will be that way. so maybe it's not the best idea to attempt to start a magazine when 9 out of 10 fail. but products will always have packaging so that's not going anywhere. and as a kid i loved making boxes and all that. like my dad would bring home cardboard and i'd just make boxes. i'd make boxes for my boxes. haha so i figure if i take a few classes over the next year or so maybe i can steer my life towards that. we'll see. at least i have a short term goal right now that could maybe lead to a more long term goal. we shall see.

blarghy blargh blargh! i sliced my finger today with the xacto. man o man. it HURT. like a stinging sensation. i did this once before back in like '04 or '05 when i was in school. i sliced off the tip of my middle finger and it bled for hours and hours. and took awhile to heal. and now i have a slight scar there. today i was cutting a comp out and the blade went up and sliced my index finger on the side. for a moment i didn't think it was too bad. and then all the blood came out and i realized that a flap of skin had been sliced off. not entirely off thankfully which will help tremendously with the healing process. nevertheless, it hurt and bled and sucked a lot. i had people help me wrap it up really tightly like a tourniquet to stop the bleeding but then my finger felt like it was going numb. haha so i had to ease up on that. then later i had someone help me change the dressing and i saw the cut. it didn't look as bad as before because the blood had stopped gushing. but the moment i took an antiseptic pad to it, bam, blood came out again. so we wrapped it up and it has remained that way. i will redo the dressing again before i sleep. it's just more annoying than anything. i can't type nearly as well without my index finger. bah!

10.20.2008

everyone, please go out and vote on november 4th!! and if you are like me, you'll be voting YES on 2, NO on 8, YES on R and one big fat fucking YES for obama/biden.

if you don't vote, i'm sending the owl after you.

the weekend has come and all but gone. i'm really quite tired. not a moment's rest for this lady. friday night alex and i went to fresh pressed for the obama fundraising event. we met up with my former coworker stacey and her gf. the screens weren't that cool so we didn't bother to stand in the enormous line but we bought a baked good for support. but it was awesome to see how many people turned out. if the line had been way shorter, i probably would have gotten a shirt. but the fact that i didn't really love the designs and the line was super long, meant i didn't get one. but then again, the fact that the line was out the door was pretty damn awesome. after the event we went back home and hung out with byron and cesar for a few minutes since they were in the area. then we went over the arclight to see nick and norah's infinite playlist which was super cute. not the world's best movie but hell, it had great music and michael cera. that's good enough for me.

yesterday i ran around like a madwoman running errand after errand. one of which was going to REI to get part of stacey's bday gift. neil came with me to help out. then later that night dance party descended on joe's loft for the long overdue housewarming party. the place was swank as shit. jones really fixed it up. we all drank wine like sophisticated dance partiers and ended up staying til like 2am which was surprising to me.

then today alex and i headed out early for brunch with the cowans and then out to sherman oaks for stacey's birthday mini golf party. a lot of people showed up. after fooling around the arcade for at least an hour, a good 20+ people set out to play mini golf. my group was byron, cynthia, alex and me. i won with 51. par was 54. turns out jen also got 51. so the jen's ruled the golf course today with our low scores. WOO! mind you, i never do this well at mini golf. i always go over par. i just got lucky. hell, i even got a hole in 1. that NEVER happens to me. after mini golf the girls went out with stacey for dinner at this mexican place down the road. real tasty stuff. then i came home and watched dexter. and now it's time to go to bed!

10.16.2008

my god. it's already thursday and i haven't even blogged about the AMAZING weekend we had in vegas. this is probably due to the fact that it took me like 2 days just to organize the photos and post them on facebook. then i had a slew of freelance stuff to do and then there was the debates (oh don't get me started joe the plumber) and the season finale of "project runway." busy busy times these are. but now that i have a moment or two, i can finally post about the glorious weekend. here goes.

so neil, rick, kristen and lawrence headed out to vegas on friday while cynthia, alex and i left saturday morning. we arrived in vegas around 4pm and headed straight to our hotel room at the tropicana. a bit of old school vegas for us. ie, it was a cheap deal! $135 a night. we were so exhausted we just laid around for a few hours and chatted with the folks before headed out to dinner. we prepped our little table in the room with all our drinking supplies. we were ready to go!

we had dinner at this rainforest restaurant in the MGM which was totally overpriced but somewhat tasty. on the way out we passed by a bar that was selling jello shots for $2 each. so we decided to get some. now, i LOVE jello shots. but these jello shots came in these hard plastic containers that were hard to bend. and they were also too large to pop in my mouth. kristen and neil had no problem with theirs. lawrence and i, on the other hand, didn't fare as well. except eventually lawrence got his down whereas i was fumbling like a motherfucker. and then i started laughing about it all and then it was totally over. fortunately, rick captured the entire experience on camera. in the end i didn't even finish the damn thing. i just gave up.

so once we got back to our room we began to get ready. this entailed putting on our fancy duds and drinking copious amounts of liquor. the night started off relatively tame as we eased into the drinking. rick pulled out his new mirror sunglasses and people posed with them.

then the real drinking began. alex and i took some goofy shots and i had him snap one of me to show off my dance party necklace that i made just for the night. gotta represent!

as the drinking really got underway, it was apparent that we were all getting pretty trashed. rick whipped out cynthia's shiny jacket and started striking poses with it. then i snagged it and somehow turned into J-1000. i don't really know how this started, but when i put the jacket on along with the glasses, people started yelling T-1000 (like from the terminator) and then i think cynthia suggested i do that running move that he does. so i started doing that and it turned out to be hilarious. i was totally fucking it up and cynthia said i looked like a golden girl because i think i was out of sync and not going fast enough. or something. i don't really know. i was so drunk it was all just hilarious.

after a sufficient amount of drinking in the room, we decided to head on out to the strip. i think it was btwn 11 and 12 at the time. we got it in the our heads that we were going to ride the monorail over to the venetian and try and get on a gondola ride. no one really brought up the idea that the gondola rides probably stop well before midnight. but whatever. it got us out of the room. so we walked to the monorail where we fumbled around for a bit to buy a ticket and then we waited for the train. we got on and had our own car for most of the way. we were being insanely ridiculous on the train. dancing around. screaming. and then we started having a conversation about prince alberts. kristen and i were quick to point out that that is a dick piercing. rick was convinced that it was a prank can thing. like the snack in a peanut can. i don't really know how this got started and how it got resolved but suffice is to say, the people who got in our car were probably thinking "what the fuck is wrong with these kids?"

note, i really like how long my legs look in this photo (i secretly yearn to be 5'8") but why the hell am i making such a funny face? anyway, after we got off the monorail we had to walk through harrahs to get to the venetian. the ceiling in harrahs was cool so kristen took this opportunity to self-timer this awesome photo of all of us. too bad alex had his eyes closed!!!

we walked out onto the street where rick got chatted up by some drunk dude. at least i think that's what happened. i don't know. i know rick had a bunch of porno flyers in his hand at one point. we approached the venetian where we took the opportunity to snap some slick moving incline photos.

once we got inside we quickly learned that the gondolas are NOT open this late. my sober self could have told my drunk self that. oh well. it got us down to that part of the strip which was one of the goals for the evening anyway. so it was fine. we dilly dallied for awhile inside when i got a call from dan. or maybe i called him. i don't remember. anyway, we agreed to meet him at his hotel, treasure island. so i rallied our troops and we were off. rick again fucked around on the escalator while cynthia and neil were dancing on the terrace with no regard to the people around them. in other words, AWESOME. that's some dance party spirit right there. then we went down some escalator and rick tried to get all fancy on the railing and literally fell down the rest of the way. luckily he wasn't banged up too much. and lo and behold dan was at the base of the escalator just randomly. or maybe not randomly. he wasn't drunk like we were. rick tried to take his hat and i snapped this awesome action shot of him. but then i guess rick got the hat in the end.

all of us walked into the casino and i guess someone chose to go to a particular bar there. because all of a sudden we were all sitting at this chill bar inside the casino. i was ok with that because my feet were starting to hurt. i think i drank some more since alex got me a drink i think. i feel like we sat there a long time but i'm not sure. i think we did because there are a lot of photos from that part of the night. apparently i was unaware at that point, just how short my dress was. as you can see, it's hiked up pretty high as i'm laughing to high hell. what you don't see are the series of photos where rick is like tickling me or something and you can clearly see my blue panties. those have been left out of this blog posting. oh yes. rick took off his jacket and realized that it had ripped on the seam due to him falling down the escalator and that he was bleeding on his arm and it bled through his shirt. bummer man. alex took dan's hat and looked like an old man. i showed him this photo and he doesn't remember taking dan's hat. yea folks, by this point we were all smashed.

after the bar we went into the casino area and then left dan to go to bed. we walked next door to the mirage where i think we just fucked around. i think some people gambled. by this point i was starting to feel like REALLY drunk. like maybe i'd just plum pass out. so i started going to the bathroom more. and finally at some point people decided to get food. so we went to some food place inside the casino. we had to wait for our table and in that moment of waiting i started to feel very unwell. so i had alex escort (as in hold my hand so i wouldn't fall over) me to the bathroom. except halfway there i felt faint. so i just literally sat down on the floor of the casino. like in the middle of tables i think. i had to sit down so i wouldn't faint. i composed myself and went to the bathroom. i was having flashbacks to the time i went to the airport in london on the way to amsterdam with jason, daisy and aaron high as a fucking kite and i couldn't find the bathroom. it felt sort of like that. i was totally incapacitated. but i got the bathroom where i sat some more in the stall but surprisingly didn't throw up. then alex and i headed back to the food place where our crew were at the table. alex ordered a burger and i just sat there. i think i fell asleep immediately on neil's shoulder. from what i gather from the stories and the photos, alex fell asleep before his burger came and they had to wake him up. how sad. i don't blame tiredness and lack of energy. i blame drunkenness. because i was damn near plastered. and of course it was past 3am as well.

rick left us because he didn't feel like eating. he just decided to go wander. we didn't see him for the rest of the night. so the rest of us contacted stacey who was in vegas for the NKOTB concert and was, at the time, just leaving the after-party which was at the luxor hotel. the luxor is across the street from the tropicana so we decided to cab it back (our heels and the intense cold outside would not permit walking to/from the monorail) to our end of the strip and meet stacey at the luxor. so that's what we did. kristen, alex and lawrence went in one cab and cynthia, neil and i went in another. our cab driver was a woman and we lied to her saying we went to the NKOTB show. for the rest of the cab ride we discussed our favorite band members and sang some bits of the songs. it was hilarious and amusing indeed. once we got to the hotel alex laid down on a bench because he was dead tired. stacey came down to meet us and she told us briefly about the amazing night she had. our night was amazing but the tangibility of it is hard to put in words. it was just supremely fun. but not for any particular event or reason.

after chatting for a good 15-20 min we decided to head back to the hotel and hit the hay. it was well past 4am and cynthia and i had succumb to just walking barefoot indoors because our feet were KILLING US. but we had to walk across the street back to the hotel. i swear to god btwn the 45 degree weather and my blisters, it was like the longest walk ever. thank god neil was there to lend a hand. alex had already walked back and kristen and lawrence had to make a stop at new york, new york.

the night ended well past 5am as we all piled into the room and got ready for bed. what a glorious evening it was. the morning, however, was not as glorious. i didn't feel THAT bad considering i barely drank any water the night before but i felt so ehhhh. kristen, lawrence and alex left at 11am so they could get back to LA in time for their respective sporting events. the rest of us decided to be more leisurely. neil was with his cousin watching the seahawks game at a bar while cynthia, rick and i hunted for some food. it was quite the hunt. we went to the planet hollywood hotel to look at the brunch but the line was long and it was $22. too pricey. so we finally (after about an hour of hunting) found a breakfast place a couple miles away (thanks to yelp on the iphone!). so we went there. omelet house. it was quite tasty and totally hit the spot. then neil came to meet us and we were on our way at like 4pm. the drive home was crappy cuz there was traffic. but we finally got home around 9pm. ahhh, it was so awesome. i really don't like vegas. but vegas with a lot of good friends and a lot of liquor = really good times. i'll actually be back there next weekend with alex to see elton john. his parents were going to meet us there but his mom's ankle is still messed up and she doesn't want to fly and make it worse. so now we are going alone without them. it won't be a crazy time and i'm ok with that. and we're flying too which makes it easier in some regards.

this weekend is chill comparatively. except that since i've been out of town so much i have a ton of errands to run. so all day saturday i'll be doing that. then heading out to joe's housewarming party. sunday is PACKED with a brunch in the morning and then stacey's birthday party at the sherman oaks mini golf place. then some of us ladies are going out for a girl's dinner. so basically the entire weekend is spoken for. man. next weekend is vegas. the weekend after that kyla comes and it's halloween and the usc/UW homecoming game. when will i ever get a rest? i guess not til november. this really is turning out to be the month of champions. but you didn't hear that from me. ;)

i just want to make a couple of quick notes to track our lovely world economy.

recently economic failures:
- lehman brothers
- WAMU
- wachovia
- mother's cookies
- iceland

yes, beloved mother's cookies went bankrupt. no more animal cookies!!! wtf is going on in this country? UGH!!! shit is just tumbling left and right. fucking hell. and iceland?? an entire COUNTRY goes bankrupt?!!? that's insanity. the icelandic krona will no longer trade on the international currency exchange but today it closed at $1 USD = $222 ISK. when i was there back in 2006/07, it was about $1 USD = $65 ISK or something like that. so basically the currency devalued almost 4x. so now everything probably costs about normal price. haha MAN this is fucking insane though. i will continue to keep track of more economic failures as i'm sure there will be more. the dow plummeted again. but that's like a broken record. i mean it's lost 2000 points in like 2 wks or something. jesus! if mccain wins i swear there will be riots.

10.08.2008

bah i tell you. BAH!!

what a rough night i had. first it started with me thinking that my car had been towed. i went down to put something in it and it wasn't there. not where i normally park it. FUCK! so i searched all the levels and concluded i was not living in a seinfeld episode and that it must have been towed because yesterday was the 7th of the month and you are supposed to buy your parking pass by the 5th. i had forgotten since i was in SF for the weekend. FUCK! so i went down to the kiosk and talked to the man who promptly directed me to the the tow truck sign with no sympathy whatsoever. i called the tow company but the man said that my car wasn't there. he suggested i look again since there are so many levels to my parking structure. so i started to do that and called alex back when it clicked. i left my car by his work. FUCK! i parked my car over there so he could take me to the airport and i forgot to get it when i returned on sunday. so that's where my car is. this means i have a street cleaning ticket too. fuck! lowercase "fuck!" because that's way way cheaper than getting your car out of a towing facility. phew!

but then.... 5am rolls around and i'm into my 3rd or 4th hour of sleep when the fucking fire alarm goes off. UGHHH. alex and i hop out of bed and walk down to the lobby. of course hardly anyone leaves their apts. these fools probably aren't even home. i live in hollywood where half my complex parties at night and sleeps during the day. i'm sure they were at an afterparty or something. the folks that did leave their apts generally looked like they had checked the mirror before leaving. wtf? come on people. in a real fire you can't be doing this! and some looked like they were ready to party or maybe had just returned from partying. anyway, we waited about 30 min while the firemen came and checked it out. someone had pulled the alarm apparently. all was well. we went back to our apt and not 2min later the fucking alarm went off again!!! so we walked back down the stairs only to find that the alarm is broken. they are trying to figure out what to do. lovely. so we went back to the apt and tried to sleep through it. of course it just kept going. and eventually i got back to sleep. motherFUCK! i was so goddamn tired.

later this morning i woke up a bit earlier than usual so i could go downstairs and buy my parking pass. i went down there and the guys said they had sold out for this month. FUCK! they said i could wait around for the manager to come and talk to him. maybe he'd still sell me one. so i waited and luckily he said that they were sold out but really they aren't. he keeps some for residents. thank god! something had gone right. so i got my pass and was on my way. but man o man what a BAD night.

as for my weekend in SF. well...it was ok. melly's baby shower was good and just as i expected. i had to help get her there and not ruin the surprise and i think that whole bit went over as well as it could have. the shower was like a typical shower. food and games and present-opening. i had a good time. nice to see her family again. the rest of the weekend was ehhhh. thus ehhhh + good = ok. it was ehhhh because i decided to stay with my parents (because they are near the end of their divorce) and that never goes well. and this time it was just plain sad. i'm not going to get into details because i don't want to, but basically i've come to realize over the many years of living in a "broken" home that it sucks for everyone. it sucks for me being the product of parents fighting and insane "restrictions" that were totally fucked up. it sucks for my dad because he had to deal with all this bullshit just because he wanted me to have a "good" upbringing with two parents around. except it basically wasted 15 yrs of his life and that just depresses me. and it sucks for my mom because she's so dependent on my dad that i don't know what she'll do when he's finally gone. it's just damn depressing. and being home reminds me of all of this stuff. not to mention my house is fucking depressing. but that's another situation that resulted from my mom's "restrictions" as i will gently put it. anyway, i feel like i can't really go home. like home home. i can go to SF and have a good time but being at home just doesn't settle well with me and consequently i didn't really do much all weekend except feel mildly depressed about it all. sorry to tinna for not hanging out. i was just not in the spirits for it. bleh. i wish i could change things but i can't so it will just have to be the way it is.

i canNOT express enough how much i HATE palin. like words cannot do justice to my hatred for her. her smugness KILLS me. it gets under my skin and crawls around and eats me alive. for those that know me well, it's kind of like how i feel about dots placed closely together. yes, THAT is how i feel about her. the debate. ugh. well i mean it could have been a trainwreck and i wish it was. but it wasn't. however just because she didn't bomb doesn't mean she did well. she clearly didn't win the debate. the bar was set really low for her so any sort of rise above that is considered "good." and she spoke like a fuckin PTA mom with canned answers. let me reference some soundbites:

"i'll betcha. go to a kids' soccer game on saturday and turn to any parent there on the sideline."

"darn right, it was the predator lenders."

and my favorite of the night:

"say it ain't so, joe. there you go again, pointing backwards again. now, doggone it, let's look ahead and tell americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future."

i mean who the fuck speaks like that in a debate? darn right? doggone it? wtf? ugh!!! and above all, she didn't even answer all the questions! she even said at the beginning of the debate, "i may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but i'm going to talk straight to the american people and let them know my track record also."

ugh. ok enough about this. i could go on and on...switching gears. alex's bday was yesterday and he decided to do a scavenger hunt for his "event" since it was a wednesday night and drinking heavily was out of the question. also i won't be in town this weekend so he couldn't really do anything then either. so he decided to do a scavenger hunt and a lot of our friends showed up. i was surprised at the enthusiasm for it all. i was really proud of dance party. there were 5 teams and 30 possible items to collect. they had 3 hrs. people came over first to hang out and eat pizza and ice cream cake which i got from scoops. alex opened his gifts which were all coffee related. two specialty coffee making devices, a bean grinder, and some coffee. he loved his stuff. i know him so well! the teams broke off and did their thing and in the end they wound up getting a lot of the items. stacey and neil's team won in the end with neil giving a huge effort to get a really risky item -- proof that one of the massage parlors around here gives happy endings. he took a photo of a sign in one of them that said something like "all sexual acts must be performed in the confines of the room" or something like that. apparently they got pissed when he took the photo. hats off to him for his bravery! the photos i took weren't that exciting cuz they were just of the people in our house hanging out. i wasn't on any of the teams so i couldn't take any "action" shots. but i will end this with one final image. lawrence, cynthia, rick, stacey and alex. all month of champion birthday babies. and so it begins. MOC 2008...

i saw a fight on my way to work this morning!! i was walking out of coffee bean and turned the corner to walk down the street i always walk when i saw these 4 guys fighting. it seemed verbal at first and i thought perhaps i could walk through. but then it got physical and then one guy got a bat out. he started hitting one of the other guy's van window. this is when i walked the other way. i don't know why they were fighting but i was just going to go around the building just in case. i mean it was broad daylight and all but that wasn't stopping them from fighting. who's to say they wouldn't somehow involve me cuz i was there in the way. oh HELL NO. what an exciting morning!

in other news, the weather is complete SHIT right now. yesterday and today it has been disgustingly humid and hot. it's going to be like 100 today in NoHo. what. the. fuck? it's fall officially and yet it's hot and gross outside. this is why i hate the fall. it's not really a season. at least in LA. it's just some weird ass transitional period btwn summer and fall. with less evening light. bleh.
