GRRRRRR!!!! see these glasses. both of them are no good!!! i hurried over to the optometrist to get them and even encountered train delays on the way back due to KIDS FUCKING AROUND IN THE METRO TUNNEL (!!!) and $180 later, my fucking glasses are no good. i think they fucked up my prescription. UGH!!!! i'm so angry. two pairs of glasses and neither work. the computer ones make the text not as clear and the monitor looks distorted. i'm convinced that alone, each lens works for each eye but together they form some weirdness that just does NOT work. meanwhile the glasses for driving (ie. distance) seem to make things blurrier at a distance!! i mean at certain focal lengths they work but not at "infinity" as they would say. ugh!! so now i have to go back. probably get them redone. they better not charge me or there will be HELL TO PAY. time to pay for cold ass philly. 11.24.2008
i'm too preoccupied with shit to really write anything in detail but the weekend was quite good. namely the outing to good luck bar on friday night with the old AA crew. though there were so many new AA people that i didn't even know half the people. we all convened for heather's last day. just 3 more people to get out of there -- doug, sumi and lawrence. we said if 2 of them quit we're all going to vegas. we as in the old AA crew. the crew that held together through the good and the bad. the crew that still remains friends. the crew that knows how to party together and sail over the line. i learned a lot about the state of the company and it sounds like it's not pretty. but i won't divulge in this semi-public forum. the other highlight of the weekend was the of montreal show. my god it was fucking insane. i swear there were a million characters and costumes and stage props to make my head spin. i don't even really know what to say other than it was truly an amazing spectacle. probably the weirdest most incomprehensible insane show i've ever seen. too bad it had to be at the palladium which one of the worst venues in LA. wristbands to stand in the general admission main floor area? are you fucking serious? this why is we bought GA tickets. i can't tell you how many people were cursing at this insanity. luckily alex and i were able to just slip past the security guard during the set change. but still. motherfuck i hate that venue. i always have and always will. the rest of the weekend was eventful but it's late and i've got shit to finish. so i'll just let it go. 3 days of work and i'm off to philly! 3 LONG days that is. much to get done in that short amount of time! 11.18.2008
focus has begun on a total revamp of my site. not this one. my real site. hmm i should say, my professional site. this site is every bit as real. it's just personal. anyway, focus has begun. i have selected the works i'd like to showcase. i have locked in my design 95%. i need to start coding. even if i don't have all the imagery (i plan to shoot some of the printed pieces with my new camera!), i can just use placeholder in the meantime. the framework needs to be done ASAP. i think i'm going to do straight HTML to make it easier on myself. then add in a flash component where need be. that's my current idea. i have yet to consider what to do for the landing page. i have some random ideas but nothing solid. that's where the 5% comes in. cuz the rest i have decided. i need to dive straight into this and pound it out. i always let it go and then sit on my design for ages. and as much i like my current site, i'm bored with it and i need change. and i never bring myself to do it. and now i'm just saying FUCK IT. DO THIS SHIT JEN!!! so if you see me, ask me how my progress is going so that i know to keep on task. 11.17.2008
bah!! neglect! pure neglect for my bloggy. let me just laundry list some things: - i got my shiny new DSLR. i got the canon 40D. i got a tamron lens that laurel suggested. i got all the pertinent accessories. i got a huge dent in my bank account. i got a heaping mound of joy! - i went to the eye doc to get my eyes checked. he told me that in fact i am near and far sighted. lovely. so i got a pair of glasses for driving at night because i told him that i was having a bit of trouble with that. i also got my old D&G frames that were expensive as shit re-lensed since i can't be getting rid of those beautiful bad boys this soon! - friday night was a bar night some some old AA crew. but this friday is the big one since heather is fleeing! she's out! now we just have to get doug, sumi and lawrence out and we're off to a weekend in vegas -- AA style. that will be epic!!! - i settled on a holiday card design. i hope it turns out ok. but now i've thought up a possible addition to it. so we'll see how that goes as well. - i should be off to the gym right now but i'm feeling lazy. i might just go tomorrow. i can't do this whole "i'll go home and go to the gym." i must just go straight from work or my lazy ass will never go... 11.09.2008
ahh the election madness has finally died out. the day after i was still in a euphoric haze. whenever i'd look a the various newspaper headlines and watch the recaps and read all the articles, i got really worked up. it was just SO amazing. it IS just SO amazing. but then the dust settled and we were left with the unfortunate reality that this fucking so-called "liberal" state of california decided to pass prop 8 which i am still in shock about. rallys have taken place and lawsuits have been filed and i take solace in the thinking that it will be overturned in due time. stripping people of rights based off a slim margin proposition seems unfair. this should have to be a 2/3 margin or something. we're not talking about yes or no to raise taxes and thusly fund some sort of social program. we're talking about PEOPLE'S RIGHTS. ugh!!! anyway.... in the wake of all of that, a bunch of us have decided we want to continue with our love for obama and go to DC for his inauguration. i know it sounds crazy but we're doing it. a bunch of us have bought tickets and we've made the plans. at the very least, alex, me, amanda, rick and neil are going. jen and michael are considering. i think sami is going as well. and then of course people that live over there who we will be staying with are also going as well. it's going to be amazing. we all have varied itineraries. but they all revolve around philly, NY, and DC. me personally, i am flying out the friday before on a red eye to NYC with alex and amanda. then taking a train to philly. staying in philly saturday and sunday. monday going down to DC to meet up with the rest. staying there monday and tuesday (inauguration day). wednesday we're going up tp NYC and staying there the night. then leaving late thursday night. it's going to be amazing. i'm so excited. i can't wait! and before that happens i have an entire south american trip to get through. in fact this weekend i bought some gear for it. i'm totally stoked. and i bought my digital SLR and accessories for that. needless to say, my bank account is hurting. it's bleeding. but it's all worth it. you only live once! i also splurged today and got a 90min thai massage at the place i always go. it was heavenly. i had SO much tension in my back. and now a lot of it is gone. man it hurt but it felt really good after. now i'm about to work on revamping lawrence's website. i hope this goes smoothly. i haven't touch it in so long i forgot how i even built it... 11.04.2008
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! OBAMA WON!!! that just about sums it up. i feel so proud to be an american right now. i don't know if words can express how happy i am. i really didn't think it could happen. i didn't think people could get past all the racial prejudice in the world. but they did. the country spoke and barack obama will be our 44th president. incredible!!!! it wouldn't have been possible without all countless supporters going out there and canvassing and getting people out to vote. all the young people banding together to win this one. people changing people's minds. i mean it's just amazing. i got a bit teary-eyed from the shock and disbelief and joy of it all. and honestly, when mccain made his concession speech, i got a bit teary-eyed as well. more so than with obama's speech which was also very good. i know. i know. isn't that crazy? but mccain's speech was really really good. you saw a very tired man who gave his all and clearly wanted to go out on a positive note. alex said if he had run a campaign like he handled that speech, maybe he would have made more headway with people. so thank god he didn't do that. but yea. man. WOW. it felt so surreal watching obama give his acceptance speech. wow. WOW!!!! some photos from this epic day: me and alex at the polls...
there were long lines but i didn't care. i was ready to vote in the frenzy. lucky for us our polling place had two precincts and the line we saw our front was for the other precinct. i guess ours was lazy because we only had to wait a few minutes and we got to even sit down while we waited. all day i couldn't focus. and at 6pm i left work hastily to get over to brian and jessica's for the election party. all was calm til 8pm hit and the west coast polls closed. cnn called it. obama had won. we rejoiced (see the above video). america is ready for change...
bahhhh!!! election day is officially beginning. ahhhh!!! i will be watching like a hawk. i can't wait go down and vote. shit. i need to sleep. i plan to leave at 8am. that's 7.5hrs from now. crap! anyway, the weekend was really exhausting. so much so that i'm unwilling to post photos here. probably everyone that reads this is friends with me on facebook so you can see all the photos there. if i had more time and energy i'd post them here but i don't. but the nutshell of the weekend is kyla came into town friday night which was officially halloween. she was too lazy to go out with us to weho and christine didn't want to walk in her crazy heels. fair enough. but rick, neil, alex, james, byron and his friend thomas all came out. rick was a gorilla. neil was the robot from the robot song in flight of the conchords. james was a state farm agent. byron was a beagle boy from ducktales. thomas was a dapper gentleman. i was the morton's salt girl. kyla was palin. and christine she-ra. all good stuff. we met up at michael's bar for a drink and then walked around the blocked off streets. it was fun but not crazy fun. and at the end of the night we were stranded with little hope of getting a taxi as we kept getting edged out one by one. alex got really pissy and cranky which made me pissy and cranky and miserable. eventually we got home around 3:30. god i was tired. saturday we had to wake up for the SC homecoming game. jen, rick and i carpooled and ran into lauren hollingsworth at sandwich island. she looks the same and seems to be married with helluva rock on her finger. DAMN! we finally met up with the rest of the crew (neil, dwayne, joseph, amanda, brian, jessica, lawrence, spencer, gino, and later kyla) and drank and ate our food. then it began to ran which sucked so we drank more to make it less miserable. then it finally stopped raining. we headed off to the coliseum and ran into more people on the way. our seats were in the UW section since neil bought them for us so they were really crappy cuz i guess we don't care about our visiting teams and put them in the worst seats possible. or maybe just UW since they aren't a big rival of ours. anyway, the game was a blowout, 56-0 i think and thusly boring to watch. though neil was sad/mad about the game. but they were playing us and we're a good team. so it's to be expected i think. though it was a huge shutout. after the game we went to roscoe's to chow down. i could have called it a night but there was more partying to do. so some of us headed out to cap'n andy's in playa for their annual haunted house halloween party. it was ok but nothing great. i think we got there too late. i was ok with the low-key factor though since i was dead ass tired. sunday we all convened at the former site of the LA zoo for byron's bday. we consumed lots of food and goofed around the old cages. i had to leave early to take kyla to the airport and with the time change and all, i didn't return to the party because it was dark and they were packing it up early. but it was a good time while i was there. and now here we are. ready for the election. already poll results are in for dixville notch, NH which has gone repub since 1968. and tonight it went democrat. so i'm hoping this is a sign. we shall see. i'll be checking like mad tomorrow at work. and then it's a mad dash off to brian and jessica's after work for our election party. woo!!
