alex and i just had brunch (well, a couple hours ago) with his ex-gf, jana and her bf, joey. i was prepared for this to be insanely awkward but it was totally cool. i know it might sound petty to think that there could be awkwardness but i mean, jana used to really not like me i think. back when alex first moved out here and i met him a few months later, she came to coachella that year. they were set to go together. she flew out and they drove down for one day of coachella. i met her then and at the time i wasn't entirely sure who she was. i had a hunch she was his ex-gf but he didn't explicitly say so. fair enough. when you are trying to go out with someone you can't be bringing such shit up. but i could tell that whoever she was, she did NOT like me. and again, fair enough considering alex and her dated for like 3 yrs or something and she knew i was the "new" girl. the girl he was going after. anyway, once alex and i started dating i knew she wasn't that thrilled about it. so i hadn't ever seen her since that first meeting. when we were in NY one time he had lunch with her but i chose to do my own thing. not so much because i thought it'd be weird (though i did) but more because i was only going to be in NY for half a day and i didn't really want to spend it having lunch with my bf's ex-gf. you know? so when alex said that jana and joey were coming to LA this weekend and that we were going to all have brunch together, most of me though this would be ok but part of me thought it might be awkward. just given how we're all connected. but it was totally cool and not a bit awkward. at least i didn't think so. they both seem like nice people. he's a product designer with a successful teapot that has made it's rounds at design shops and on design blogs. and she's aspiring to that i think. we had a lovely brunch at BLD and then parted ways. since i'm going to ra ra riot tonight i won't be with them when alex takes them to taco zone. i'm kind of bummed cuz i love taco zone but it's ok. anyway, awkwardness averted. and what a lovely saturday afternoon it is. bright and sunny. i need to go outside.
ah i rarely write anymore. all my time is spent on this class. it's because i can't find the materials i need. BLAST! anyway, it's going fairly well though. i love it. but i'm always busy. at least my shit looks pretty good so far.
this wknd was lowkey. friday alex and i watched W and that was about it. saturday i went to the eye doctor, ran errands, had lunch with dave, and then went with alex to the annual cut and paste tournement. this year they are doing even more cities AND they have 3D and motion (in addition to the staple 2D). it's awesome. i love it. i love going to it every year. there is so much talent and bravery. i mean making a piece in 15 min with all eyes on you is not easy. so i commend them all.
sunday i actually got up and went to the gym. something i never do. i always go midday or night. then i went to lunch with some of the girls. good times. then came home to do work for my class and watch the oscars. i have to say, i still don't get my everyone LOVES slumdog. maybe i'll never get it. but it swept the oscars basically. i was happy sean penn won for best actor in milk. he was really good in that role. i loved that movie.
today is the start of what will probably feel like a long week since last week was short. i'm on the line with a guy at a spout manufacturing company. i hope he'll send me samples. this would solve a lot of my problems and save me a lot of money. so i'm crossing my fingers.
i'm in a big time crunch for my package design class. of course. goddamn story of my life these days. so i don't have time to talk in detail about the lovely wknd but i wanted to get the photos up. alex and i stayed in a lovely hotel in palm springs on valentine's day night.
it was a total room special or else we wouldn't have been able to afford this awesome room. we went to dinner at a nearby sushi place which was fine but not amazing but any means. we've had better. but i mean it's palm springs. i'm not expecting all that much. due to the fact that we stayed out really really late friday night dancing, drinking and getting suadero burritos at taco zone after the bar closed, we didn't get up early enough to go to salvation mountain saturday morning. so we went outlet shopping before arriving in palm springs proper for our dinner and drinks by the fires at the hotel. sunday morning we got up bright and early to go to joshua tree where we drove through lots of the park and got out to take little nature hikes. here are some photos. as you can see in the final image, we caught the amazing sunset. it lasted about 3 minutes but we happen to be in a place where we could stop the car and get out and snap some shots. woo!
ok, back to work.
bah. i'm a bit drunk right now off some wine and not a wee bit tired despite it being nearly 1am. nevertheless, here we go!
i just watched "lost" and GOD it's getting GOOOOOOOOD. so fucking insane. ahhhhhhhhhh. my head is spinning.
package design is going well. i'm really excited about the prospect of my my packages. i made a heat sealed pouch last night and it turned out well considering. i was really excited with the outcome.
this weekend we did taco train. man it was good. 8 stops. LOTS of food. 4 tacos, 1 burrito and 4 half sized churros. MAN. so good. thanks to byron for the handout. i posted photos on facebook and i'm too lazy and drunk to post them here.
finally, i think maybe, just maybe, dominic got laid off. i don't know. i'll find out. but sbux handed out pink slips today and his facebook status would lead to believe he was cut. poor thing. what's weirder is i had a dream months ago with him in it surrounding this date. i don't really recall the circumstances of the dream but i just remember feb 11. and this morning i thought about it. and now here we are. i hope it's not true. cuz if so he's just another person in a mildly long list of people i know who are unemployed. sometimes i worry about my job. maybe i should start saving all my files...

FTC. where are you? how is this NOT a monopoly? the world's largest ticket seller and the world's largest event promoter merging? live nation said they were going to start selling tickets. i thought that meant they were going to compete with the already monopolistic ticketmater. not shack up. now we're just going to have even higher surcharges. this is bloody rape!
